The United Kingdom is a country that primarily comprises the territories of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Regardless of where a citizen of the United Kingdom was born, raised or lives, they are considered a British Citizen. BPP status is granted to people who are unable to return to their home country due to conflict or persecution. A British Protected Person can become a British citizen by either registering or naturalising.
A British National (overseas) Citizen is a person who was a citizen of Hong Kong at the time of the transfer of sovereignty from the United Kingdom to China on 1 July 1997 and has registered as a British National (overseas) under the British National (overseas) Ordinance. Without a British Passport, BNO citizens are not eligible for ESTA.
